隋唐時期（581年—907年），為隋朝（581—618年）和唐朝（618—907年）兩個朝代的合稱，也是中國歷史上強盛的時期之一。
是經歷了五胡亂華和南北朝兩個漫長時期後的兩個大一統皇朝。
在民族思想上比較開放。
兩朝在政治、軍事、文化、經濟、科技上達到前所未有的發展，隋唐兩朝君主在治國政策上較為開明，也影響了周邊諸國向中國朝貢、學習。
隋文帝開皇九年（589年）在二百八十多年的戰亂之後重新統一了中國。
隋末大亂嚴重分裂，經過九年的統一戰爭唐朝建立。
所以史學家常把“隋唐”並稱。
在這三百多年間中國的封建社會得到很大的發展。
隋朝鼎盛時期北至東北遼寧一帶，西至新疆的塔克拉瑪干沙漠地區，東臨東海，南至越南北部一帶。
唐朝鼎盛時期北至貝加爾湖以北和外興安嶺，西至中亞的鹹海，東至庫頁島，南至越南北部。
隋朝開創了科舉制度，是歷史的一大進步。
隋廢除了九品中正制，代之以各種科目考試製度，這是從制度上認定通過考試、擇優錄取原則的確立。
使出身庶族的遇難者能夠進入政權，提高行政效率。
隋文帝確立三省六部制，府兵制。
隋唐開創了集體宰相制度，解決了君權與相權的矛盾。
三省分立的制度也使部門間相互監督，可防止任何部門濫用權力。
The Sui and Tang dynasties (581-907), the combined name for the Sui dynasty (581-618) and the Tang dynasty (618-907), was also one of the strongest periods in Chinese history. It was one of the two great unified imperial dynasties after two long periods, the Five Hu and the Northern and Southern Dynasties. It was more open in terms of national thought. The two dynasties reached unprecedented development in politics, military, culture, economy, science and technology. The monarchs of the Sui and Tang dynasties were more enlightened in their policies of governance, which also influenced the neighboring countries to pay tribute and learn from China.
Sui Wendi reunified China in the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Kaihuang (589) after more than two hundred and eighty years of war. After nine years of unification wars, the Tang Dynasty was established after the chaos of the end of the Sui Dynasty, which was severely divided. This is why historians often refer to the Sui and Tang dynasties together. During these three hundred years, China's feudal society developed greatly.
During the heyday of the Sui Dynasty, the area in the north reached Liaoning in the northeast, the Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang in the west, the East Sea in the east, and the area in the south to northern Vietnam. During the heyday of the Tang Dynasty, the area reached north of Lake Baikal and the Outer Hingan Mountains in the north, the Aral Sea in Central Asia in the west, the Kuril Islands in the east, and northern Vietnam in the south.
The Sui dynasty pioneered the imperial examination system, which was a major advance in history. Sui abolished the nine-grade system and replaced it with a system of examinations in various subjects, which was institutionally recognized as the establishment of the principle of admission by examination and merit. It enabled those who were in distress from the common people to enter power and improved administrative efficiency. Emperor Wen of Sui established the system of three provinces and six ministries, and the system of government soldiers. The Sui and Tang dynasties created the system of collective chancellorship, which resolved the conflict between the power of the monarch and the power of the prime minister. The system of three separate provinces also enabled mutual supervision between departments and could prevent any department from abusing its power.
